Long-Term Stays

What to Know Before Booking a Monthly RV Stay in Port Lavaca

A monthly RV stay is a different animal than a weekend trip. You're not just picking a place to sleep. You're picking a home base for weeks, maybe months. That makes it worth asking a few more questions up front.

Snowbirds, traveling workers on a job in Calhoun County and folks who just like to slow down all ask the same things. Here's what to know before you book a monthly stay in Port Lavaca.

Understand How Monthly Pricing Works

Most RV parks price long stays differently than nightly ones. At Texas Lakeside RV Resort, monthly stays are starting at $550 a month plus electric. Weekly stays are starting at $325, and nightly stays are starting at $65.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • "Starting at" means the lowest rate. Your price can depend on the type of site you choose, such as a standard back-in or a waterfront site.
  • Electric is extra on monthly stays. Ask how it's billed so you can budget for it. Your bill will go up if you run the A/C hard in summer or a heater in winter.
  • Rates can change. Always call to confirm the current rate before you lock in your plans.

Pick the Right Site for a Long Stay

When you're parked for a month, the site you pick makes a big difference. Think about how you'll live day to day, not just how easy it is to back in.

Size and Layout

Texas Lakeside RV Resort has sites up to 80 feet long. You can choose from standard and premium back-ins, big-rig pull-throughs, double-wide sites, and waterfront or deluxe waterfront sites. Double-wide sites can be handy if you travel with a second vehicle or just want more elbow room.

Hookups and Connectivity

Every site has full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, plus a concrete pad. Cable and Wi-Fi are available too. If you work from your rig, ask about Wi-Fi at your specific site and think about bringing a cell booster or hotspot as a backup. That's good advice at any RV park.

Questions to Ask About Your Site

  • Is the site a back-in or a pull-through?
  • Does my rig fit with room for slides and awnings?
  • Is there space for my truck or tow car?
  • Would a waterfront site be worth it for my stay?

Plan Your Arrival and Timing

Good timing makes move-in day smooth. Check-in is at 1 PM, and check-out is at 11 AM.

Office hours are Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM. The office is closed on Sunday. If you're rolling in on a weekend, call ahead so you know what to expect.

Also note that holidays require a 3-night minimum. If your monthly stay starts or ends near a holiday, mention it when you book.

Think About the Season

Port Lavaca has mild winters, with January highs in the mid-60s on average. Summers are hot and humid. The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30, so if you'll be here during those months, have a plan. Know your route inland, keep your tanks and fuel in good shape and watch the forecast.

Look at What Makes Daily Life Easy

On a short trip, you can rough it. On a long one, the little things add up. Before you book, look at what the park has on site.

At Texas Lakeside RV Resort, you'll find:

  • Multiple laundry rooms and large private restrooms and showers
  • An essentials store and propane so you don't have to run to town for every little thing
  • A swimming pool, hot tub and fitness center to unwind or stay active
  • A clubhouse with a full kitchen plus BBQ and picnic areas with pavilions
  • A dog park for your four-legged travel buddy
  • A private stocked fishing lake right on the property

Safety matters on a long stay, too. The resort has a gated entrance, security cameras and on-site management. Wide paved roads and a 7 mph speed limit keep traffic slow and calm. The park is also ADA accessible.

Know the Area Around You

Port Lavaca is a small bay town and the county seat of Calhoun County. You'll find everyday shopping in town, and Victoria is about a half-hour drive for bigger errands.

On your days off, there's plenty to do. Fish the lighted causeway pier, walk the boardwalk at Lighthouse Beach and Bird Sanctuary or take a day trip to Port O'Connor. In winter, you can drive about an hour to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge to look for whooping cranes.

Traveling workers will like that the park is set up for long-term guests, not just weekend campers. A quiet, secure spot to come home to after a long shift goes a long way.
